Devil's Pulpit walk
Start: The Park
Finish: The Park
Length: 5.95 km / 3.7 miles
Weather: Hot and sunny
On a similar theme to the previous walk from Symond's Yat, we set off in search of the elusive Devil's Pulpit. On our last visit to the area, some 30 years ago, we had failed to find the Devil's Pulpit. That walk had been very impromptu, with no map to follow. But this time, armed with digital OS maps, a new walking pamphlet and, more importantly a real desire not to fail again, surely we would find it!
At the start of the walk, a short distance from the car park.
A trig point amongst the undergrowth.
Every walk should include a bit of generic field-path-hedgerow walking.
Offa's Dyke.
Promising signage at last.
The splendid, but elusive view of Tintern Abbey and River Wye from the Devil's Pulpit. Look carefully and you can see the necessary scaffolding that adorns the walls, during restoration.
Some more of the Offa's Dyke. This section reminded me of the Iron Age hill fort on Wychbury Hill.
The stile and gate leading into Poors Allotment.
Later that evening...
The lovely Miner's Cottage.
