Fyfield Down walk
Start: Car park just before Redpost Farm
Finish: Car park just before Redpost Farm
Weather: Dull but dry
Fyfield Down is the best display of sarsen stones in Britain. The stones were brought down into the valley at the end of the last ice age, some 30 million years ago.

Long Tom is a standing stone located between two gallops and is approximately 2.5m high. The jury appears to be out on this and it's authenticity. Some say it is too tall and too straight. Because of it's location it is also known as the 'winning post'.

The sandstone blocks, scattered across the valley floor and slopes, create a surreal, sheep-filled landscape.

The Devil's Den is the main reason I set out to walk across Fyfield Down. But initially it was hard to locate.

The chamber is part of a Neolithic passage grave on Fyfield Down. Two standing stones, a capstone and two fallen stones are all that remain of what was the entrance to a long mound.
